Using the Web Administration Interface

Domains, Groups, Users and Resources

This section describes how to add and modify accounts using the SCOoffice Server Web administration interface.

Using the Web Administration Interface

Log into the http://system_name interface as the admin user (the default password is admin). This will display the main view page, which consists of two sections:

At the very top, or root, of the tree is the fully qualified hostname of the server. This is the default value for the myhostname parameter in the /opt/insight/etc/postfix/main.cf file and is therefore the default address for which the server will accept mail.

Under the root of tree is the administrator account admin.  This top level or global administrator account can administer every aspect of the server. The other two types of administrative accounts, domain administrator and local administrator, are restricted in both scope and capability. Domain administrator accounts can administer the domain to which they belong. Local administrator accounts can administer only the group to which they belong. Additionally, these administrative account types do not have the ability to create or alter mail folders in the Cyrus IMAP server. If the domain and/or local administrator is to create new users, the global administrator should enable createonpost in the Cyrus IMAP configuration page (select ConfigurationàServicesàCyrus IMAP).

Following the global administrator account would be the list of virtual mail domains which can be expanded to show the groups, users, and resources they contain. At install time a default mail domain is created, but it is not required that this be used. (In fact it can be removed in favor of a different domain.)

The server supports groups, which are used to organize users and resources.  The structure that these lend is visible in the Outlook and WebClient address books. Groups can be used to separate the users and resources by geographical location, department, or other. (Note that there is no requirement that groups be used.)

An object called a resource is available to represent such entities as conference rooms or shared office equipment that an individual would want to schedule when organizing a meeting. Resources have calendars and free/busy data that are automatically managed by a component of the server called the Resource Manager. This is a background process which accepts/rejects meeting requests and updates the calendar and free/busydata belonging to each resource.

Although the current GUI will allow you to do otherwise you should follow these rules in creating your server content:

o       Groups

o       Users

o       Resources

o       Users

o       Resources

Domains, Groups, Users, and Resources

Click on Accounts in the navigation pane and select the entity to be created. Select View Accounts to display the server tree hierarchy; click an item to list or change attributes, or to delete the item. Note: the default admin password of admin should be changed to a new password.

Creating Groups, Users, and Resources

When creating one of these entities it is important that you place it in the correct domain and group. The Organization or Group Name pull-down in the creation page is how the domain and group is selected. Selecting <blank> assigns the default domain of the server noted by the fully qualified hostname at the top of the hierarchy.

Modifying/Deleting Domains, Groups, Users, and Resources

To modify or delete one of these entities, simply click on it in the hierarchical tree view. Notice the Update, Reset, and Delete buttons at the bottom of the page (you may have to scroll down). If you are making changes to the page content, click Update. You can move users from one domain or group to another by changing the Organization or Group Name. Use the Reset button to undo changes made before clicking Update. To delete the object, click the Delete button.
